A resource is abstract information such as a customer list, a purchase order, a web page, a piece of code, a blog entry, an email message, a JMS delivered message etc etc. The state of a resource is returned in a representation (a concrete value) when it is requested.

A request consists of an identifier and a verb. The identifier specifies the information resource and the verb specifies the action.

An identifier is a token that identifies a resource. NetKernel uses the Universal Resource Identifier (URI), the industry standard for identifying Internet resources, for its resource identifiers.

A verb specifies the desired action to be performed by the request on the information modeled by the resource. Supported verbs include SOURCE, SINK, NEW, EXISTS and DELETE The most commonly used verb is SOURCE, which is the default.
