A transreptor is an endpoint that provides a service which converts a resource representation from one physical type to another. Transreption represents an isomorphic (lossless) transformation. Typically this means converting from one class of object to another whilst still conveying the same information.

Transreption is a shortening of the formal word "Transrepresentation". The act of using a transreptor is called "transreption", or "to transrept".

Transreption is useful for adapting services to one another by freeing them from the requirements to use one anothers representational forms.

Detailed information about writing transreptors is included in the Physical Reference Guide.
